Since 1972, Orlando Orthopaedic Center has remained independently owned and has grown to include 28 orthopaedic specialists across multiple subspecialties, many of whom are recognized leaders amongst their peers nationwide.

The team at Orlando Orthopaedic Center delivers cost-effective, comprehensive coordinated patient care throughout Central Florida and beyond.

We have seven Orlando Orthopaedic Center locations throughout Central Florida, plus a state-of-the-art outpatient surgery center at the heart of our downtown campus located in the trendy SoDo Shopping District just south of downtown Orlando. To provide more immediate care, we have opened several orthopaedic injury walk-in clinics located throughout Orlando and the surrounding communities.

JOB SUMMARY: Provide quality X-ray images for our providers while maintaining efficient patient flow.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • ARRT Certificate
  • FL RT License

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of one year experience in clinical assisting (orthopedic experience preferred)
  • Knowledge of Human Anatomy
  • Knowledge of electronic health record software and digital imaging software (PACS experience preferred)
  • Pleasant demeanor and tone of voice
  • Good communications skills (verbal and nonverbal)
  • Professional appearance

CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage XR orders and patient flow using EHR software.
  • Enter patient information into digital imaging software.
  • Escort patients to and from the exam room.
  • Verify correct patient using two identifiers (ex. Name & DOB).
  • Explain breathing instruction before making the exposure.
  • Position patient to demonstrate the desired anatomy using body landmarks.
  • Examine radiographic requisition to verify accuracy and completeness of information.
  • Use universal precautions.
  • Question female patients of childbearing age about possible pregnancy.
  • Explain procedures to patient or patient’s family.
  • Use proper body mechanics or mechanical transfer devices when assisting patients.
  • Provide for patient comfort and modesty.
  • Verify accuracy of patient film identification.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
  • Recognize need for prompt medical attention and administer emergency care.
  • Clean, disinfect, or sterile facilities and equipment, and dispose of contaminated items in preparation for next examination.
  • Position patient, X-ray tube, and image receptor to produce radiographs.

ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Process patient request for XR/MRI images
  • Record incoming and outgoing films/CD’s in EHR
  • Scan/convert plain films to digital images
  • Maintain an organized filing system that is ‘user friendly’ for other technologists
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of supplies
  • Provide clinical support for Medical Assistants (at MA/Branch Manager’s discretion)

REPORTING RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Time Off (PTO, call out sick): All requests will be directed to the Branch Manager first and then forwarded to the Radiology Supervisor to determine if coverage can be provided.
  • Equipment Problems (PACS, FUJI, GE Walker, Canon): Notify Radiology Supervisor and copy the Branch Manager. For immediate assistance call Radiology Supervisor at ext. 2502.
  • Staff/Patient issues: contact your Branch Manager.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist with training new staff (BMO/RT) with learning OOC protocols and procedures. Assist in training and developing RT students in a clinical environment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting of patients, manual/finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. The position involves standing and walking for over 8 hours a day.
Employee will occasionally be asked to lift and carry items weighing up to 30 pounds. Normal visual acuity and hearing are required. Employee will work under stressful conditions and possibly work irregular hours. Employees should expect to be exposed to biohazardous materials on a regular basis.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

The employee will have some exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances (cleaning products), and will have near constant patient contact.
