Title: Youth Program Associate
Summary:
Responsible for implementing activities for youth in Grades K to 12 who are enrolled in out-of school programs, including after school and Summer. Program outcomes focus on academic enrichment in reading/English Language Arts (ELA) and math, positive youth development activities, career and college readiness (Grades 6-12), and parent engagement. Associate will be assigned to serve students in a particular grade range e.g. Grades K-2, 3-5, 6-8, 9-12. Programs will be on-site at a school within the Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD).
RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Functions
- In collaboration with the Site Director and other site staff, develop and implement lesson plans designed to engage students in challenging activities that interest them in ELA, arts, music, and/or STEM.
- Implement activities that help students complete career and college readiness tasks for their grade level (Grades 6 to 12).
- Promote and implement activities that help parents demonstrate active involvement in their student’s academic and socio-emotional success.
- Work with other program staff to create a safe and positive learning environment for youth.
- Supervise youth at all times.
- Establish and maintain a positive and constructive rapport with parents/guardians, communicating frequently regarding program participation, concerns, and accomplishments.
- Oversee transitions between various program activities, including those provided by community-based organizations to ensure students arrive on time and ready to participate fully.
- Provide orientation and day to day direction for volunteers working in the program.
- Assist with serving snacks/meals and supplements as part of the program schedule, assist in clean up.
- Help to oversee clean-up of the program space at the end of each session.
Administrative Functions
- Follow all policies and procedures established by GCNCA and the school site.
- Enforce all program rules in a positive and constructive manner, educating parents/guardians as to program requirements and their responsibilities.
- Follow all policies and procedures related to the operation of a program serving youth.
- Maintain all necessary records for each enrolled child; ensure all paperwork is accurate and complete.
- Complete daily attendance records, meal reports, and other required documentation in a timely manner.
- Assist in the maintenance of an inventory of all program supplies related to the operation of the program.
Other
- Troubleshooting to help assure that the program operates safely, efficiently, and effectively.
- As assigned by the Site Director.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have a high school degree/GED. A plus is having some college or degree in education or related major but other majors welcomed.
- Must have at least three months of volunteer or work experience interacting with youth in Grades K to 12, specifically in a group.
- Ability to lead a group of 18 youth in one or more category of activities: academic enrichment, STEM, social and emotional learning, career and college readiness, art, music, recreation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated initiative and adeptness at managing change.
- Demonstrated organizational skills.
- Ability to work with a variety of people of different ages, educational levels, races, and ethnicities.
- Physically able to perform job duties on a daily basis.
- Must meet the criminal background check requirements to work in a State of Ohio licensed child care center.
Note: Prior to hiring a person will be fingerprinted and a criminal background check will be performed. Proof of any college degree(s) and/or coursework and/or other training and/or certifications/licenses must also be provided upon hiring.
Schedule
Monday – Friday, afternoons within 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. during the school year. Days and start and end times are negotiable. Summer schedule TBA.

Through IConnect, NCA serves older adults with programming via the Internet, telephone, and in-person at selected sites. IConnect helps older adults reduce social isolation by increasing social interaction, participating in activities with others, and engaging in new experiences.
