The Blake School seeks an experienced and dynamic educator to serve as Assistant Director of Upper Elementary (grades 2-5).
Reporting to the Director of Upper Elementary, the Assistant Director will help to ensure an excellent educational experience for every student. In addition to overseeing day-to-day operations of the building, specific responsibilities will include oversight of student academic progress and student conduct; curriculum development; class scheduling; supervision and evaluation of faculty and staff; and management of regular assemblies and special events. The assistant director will also chair or serve on various divisional and all-school committees and attend student and employee events.

- Deep knowledge of elementary curriculum and instruction through a constructivist lens

- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, parents, faculty and staff
- Excellent logistical skills, including time and task management and the ability see projects through from inception to completion
- Exceptional emotional intelligence and conflict-resolution skills
- Demonstrated intercultural competence
Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work closely with, and in support of, the Upper Elementary Director to foster community, connection and collaboration among student, faculty, staff and families
- Create and sustain a joyous, inclusive and well-organized campus community
- Counsel and support teachers in their work with students
- Collaborate with the Director of Upper Elementary, the Director of the Early Learning Center (grades PK-1) and the Lower School office and administrative team to create a cohesive experience for all Lower School constituents
- Participate in the faculty evaluation process
- Plan and facilitate Upper Elementary faculty meetings in partnership with the Upper Elementary Director
- Oversee student assessment and faculty communications with parents (e.g., progress reports, CTP 5 testing interpretation, parent/guardian conferences)
- Engage in routine meetings with the Upper Elementary Counselor and Upper Elementary Learning Specialist to support student progress and development
- Proofread and edit student progress reports
- Coordinate and lead Upper Elementary assemblies
- Assist with the admissions process through committee work, planning and coordination
- Monitor and support curriculum implementation and facilitate curricular integration
- Partner with the Parent Association to facilitate community events
- Other duties as assigned
The search committee will begin reviewing applications on Dec. 15. Blake covers the travel and lodging costs for finalist candidates visiting from out of town.
