Position Purpose: The Oscar Lasko YMCA is looking for an enthusiastic, motivated, dependable Assistant Gymnastics Coach to deliver a high quality, safe and competitive gymnastics team program for preschool through advanced progressive gymnasts on all 4 events.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and coach a gymnastics group in a positive and nurturing environment, placing emphasis on safety and proper technique at all times
- Must follow the program schedule, making sure class begins at scheduled start time and participants are in proper groups
- Organize and maintain program records including attendance records and progress reports
- Must maintain constant supervision of gymnasts at all times
- Communicate effectively and on a timely basis with Director, co-instructors, program participants and parents
- Lead stretch, strength and conditioning exercises
- Assist coaches with the planning, organizing and implementation of special event programs
- Set up and breakdown of all program equipment and supplies
- Assess when a participant is ready to advance to the next level or group
- Organize and manage gymnasts during competitions
- Actively promote YMCA Character Development and Core Values
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
- Must be at least 15 years of age or older
- Previous coaching experience at the instructional level or former or current competitor at level 7 or above required
- Must have complete and total knowledge of USAG levels 1 through 3 curriculums
- Student instructors must have apprenticed under a level 4 instructor or above
- Ability to interact and communicate clearly with young children, parents and co-instructors
