The Hennepin Healthcare Research Institute's (HHRI) Chronic Disease Research Group (www.cdrg.org) has a current opening for a full-time Biostatistician I. Experience with an administrative database such as Medicare claims analysis is preferred as is experience working in a medical and/or research setting.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Participate in the design, analysis, and interpretation of results from medical administrative claims datasets. Conduct analyses using complex statistical methods and statistical programming software (SAS or R). Write methods and results sections of manuscripts and reports. Present research findings to internal and external stakeholders.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

- Participates in the design, analysis, and interpretation of results from medical administrative claims datasets.
- Calculates/Conducts descriptive statistics using computer-based analysis tools
- Interprets results of analysis for physicians
- Generates descriptive tabular information and graphical displays
- Writes methods and results sections of manuscripts and reports.
- Searches and reviews articles associated with clinical statistical analysis
- Compares, evaluates, and reports statistical techniques
- Reviews literature related to specific diseases
- Conducts complex statistical analyses using SAS
- Prepares statistical information in support of research/study publications
- Documents methods and procedures of statistical analysis and techniques
- Present research findings to internal and external stakeholders.
- Participates in the design, analysis, and interpretation of results from medical administrative claims datasets.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:
Education/Experience:
Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. Typical qualifications would be a Master's degree in Biostatistics or statistics and 0-3 years' experience in data analysis or statistical programming in clinical data analyses and complex data sets, analysis and interpretation and documentation and outcome measurements/analysis is desired. Experience with administrative medical claims databases and experience working in a medical and/or research setting are preferred.
Skill, Knowledge & Ability (SKA):
Requires interaction with a diverse population. Knowledge of statistics including Multivariate regression, ANOVA, survival analysis and related statistical techniques. Skilled in statistical computing in PC and larger computing environments. Familiar with analyses of medical administrative claims data analyses, e.g., Medicare. Experience working with medical claim data is a plus. Familiar with epidemiologic methods and methods for dealing with confounding. Ability to meet deadlines, to be flexible, to problem solve, and to work effectively in a team environment. Must demonstrate effective written and oral communication, strong presentation and listening skills. Display high standards of attendance, punctuality, maintains confidentiality, and manages time effectively.
