Austin Rental Boats is the number 1 boat rental and tour company in Austin. We are located on Lake Austin. We are looking for qualified and experienced Boat Captains to Captain 24' Pontoon Boats and 29' Double Decker Party Barges for groups to tour and swim around Lake Austin. We are the top rated company on Lake Austin and our Captains have everything to do with it. We operate exclusively on Lake Austin, but we will be expanding to Lake Travis in 2024.

Our Dock Location:
Our boats are stored on Lake Austin close to Hula Hut. No trailer or towing boats required.

CAPTAIN'S JOB

Captains schedule their own days they can work as well as the hours. Schedules are usually done 1-2 weeks in advance. Captains can work just weekends only, Weekdays only, afternoons, etc. The driver makes his/her own schedule. The Captain will either be taking a 22 passenger party barge or a 15 passenger 24' ft pontoon boat on 3-4 hr trips twice a day normally that usually span over 10-11 hours total on Saturdays and 4-8 hours on other days. Saturdays are the busiest with Friday and Sunday next busiest. There will be no Skiing or Tubing, so the captains will only be driving and letting people out to go swimming. Our Captains will be provided with custom dry fit shirts and custom hats. The driver must have good customer service skills to uphold our great reputation and for tips.

PAY

The pay starts at $20/hr + 18% minimum guaranteed tips (after 50 trips = $25/hr; 100 trips = $30 per hour). Tips are guaranteed 15% minimum and usually range from $100 - $250 each rental trip, which follows the typical 15%-20% gratuity per trip. We have guaranteed tips so you will get a tip on each trip even if they don't tip you in person, we charge their card. We pay for time between rentals too. We pay the Capatin's each week by Thursday you'll have the funds from the week before.

Schedule

Each trip is usually 3-4 hours long. There will be 2 trips/day and sometime 3 when we have a sunset cruise. Most rentals are Saturday, Fridays and Sundays. A typical trip includes bachelorette groups, birthday groups, etc and usually most of the time is spent in the Party Cove on Lake Austin. We do direct deposits weekly to pay the Captains. Additional $$ can be made doing other boat work.

Qualifications

If you have a Capt License (100 ton, 6 pack, etc) you may be entitled to more hourly pay or operating our big boats which you can make $500+ in tips each day.

(You DON'T need a P.B.O. License or USCG Captains license to operate our big boats its just what we prefer)

The driver MUST have completed a USCG Texas Boater's Education certificate (online course - $15-$20) prior to driving our boats along with a 2 hour on the boat training/interview process. If you have completed this before I can look it up with you DOB and full name on the TPWD website. Please only apply if you have lots of experience operating and towing boats. This is not a training school to learn how to operate boats. We have lots of expereinced Captains and you'll need to be one in order to keep this job. Don't waste each others time if you are not experieneced with boating. It is NOT required that you have experience on Lake Austin. It's a smaller lake thats easy to navigate and you will get Lake experience during the on water interview and training process for Lake Austin. Experience in general boating is required though.

Tip money is 100% the Captains.
