The implementation of ASPIRA’s Youth Development Program (YDP) will be made through the Aspira Clubs. As an Aspira Club Specialist, you will have to facilitate the learning process of our Aspirantes. This curriculum is structured to assist this process.

Position Responsibilities:

● Plans and implements outreach/recruitment activities

● Provides career, academic, and college counseling to individuals and groups

● May administer and/or interpret career interest inventories and standardized test results to clients

● Plans and administers a number of workshops and activities for clients, i.e.; field trips, workshops, selecting a school, the world of work, career-focused presentations

● Reports directly to Program Director or other supervisors as designated by Executive Director

● Keeps principal and other school officials updated on club activities and progress

● Develops an advertising system to promote the program by preparing press releases, articles, and speaking on radio and TV programs

● Facilitates clubs by providing technical assistance, direction, and support to the leadership of the club

● Develops or refers clients for tutorial and remedial work as needed to facilitate their compliance with academic prerequisites for their educational goal

● Maintains complete files for each student

● Follow-up on students after every quarter (by using report cards) to determine the progress and needs of student

● Coordinates at least three colleges visit during the school/summer year

● Every Club should have at least 20 active members

● Every Club should meet at least every 2 weeks

● Every Club should maintain an average attendance of 12 students per meeting

● Every Club must participate in the ACF weekly meetings

● Every Club should develop and implement 4 main activities in the areas of Education, Governmental, Cultural, and Community

● Meets with Club officers prior to the general meeting to insure they have an agenda, minutes, calendar of events, and any documents needed for the meeting

● Prepares written monthly reports on the progress of Clubs

● Ability to focus the Clubs activities to develop the student’s leadership skills by using the Aspira process

● Encourages and ensures student participation in Aspira’s activities

● Maintains active participation during the planning and implementation phases of the following activities:

  • A.C.F. Student Training
  • Areyto Ceremony
  • Fundraising activities
  • A.C.F. weekly meeting
  • Aspira’s Latino College Fair
  • Aspira’s Youth Conference

● Prepares projected weekly schedules to be submitted on Monday’s meetings

● Maintains active participation representing Aspira in the least one citywide committee

● Identifies and motivates at least 3 students to participate in the Public Policy program

● Refers students to other Aspira programs and actively runs Pre-Clubbing

● Meets at least once every two weeks with schools counselors, staff, and contact persons to stay involved in school programs

● Identifies and motivates at least five students to participate in the Aspira Mentoring Program

● Provides mid-year report and end-of-year report of all programs

Qualifications

● Experience working with students from diverse populations

● Experience facilitating restorative justice practices

● Experience mentoring students from the ages of 16-21

● Bilingual English/ Spanish

● Able to work flexible hours
