Patrick James is a family run organization with a chain of better men's clothing retail stores an e-commerce website and national catalog serving its customers for over 50 years. Patrick James is looking to fill the position for Controller at corporate headquarters located in Fresno, CA. Below is a description of the job as well as the qualifications desired.
Controller Role
The Controller position is accountable for the administrative, financial, and risk management operations of the company. This would include financial planning, monitoring of control systems designed to preserve company assets and report accurate financial results. Principle accountabilities are outlined below.
Planning
1. Assist in formulating the company's future direction and supporting tactical initiatives.
2. Monitor and direct the implementation of strategic business plans.
3. Develop financial strategies.
4. Manage the capital request and budgeting processes.
5. Develop and execute analysis of various business initiatives (e.g. opening new stores, new operations)
Operations
1. Participate in key decisions as a key member of the executive management team.
2. Manage accounting and human resource departments.
3. Manage any third parties to which functions have been outsourced including legal and tax.
4. Oversee the company’s transaction processing systems.
5. Implement operational best practices.
6. Assist with employee benefit plans, emphasizing cost effective benefits packages.
7. Assist in establishing yearly objectives and meeting agendas, and working with outside consultants (auditors, bankers etc)
8. Timely preparation of month-end and year-end financial statements.
Financial Information
1. Oversee the issuance of financial information.
2. Support the accounting team’s day-to-day activity – daily reporting, A/P, Payroll etc..
3. Report financial results to management team and owners.
4. Maintain general ledger, balance sheet reconciliations and corporate/overhead cost allocations.
5. Serve as final point of escalation for Accounts Receivable/Accounts Payable issues.
Risk Management
1. Understand and mitigate key elements of the company's risk profile.
2. Monitor all open legal issues involving the company, and legal issues affecting the industry.
3. Construct and monitor reliable control systems.
4. Assist with maintaining appropriate insurance coverage.
5. Ensure that the company complies with all legal and regulatory requirements.
6. Ensure that record keeping meets the requirements of auditors and government agencies.
7. Maintain relations with external auditors and investigate their findings and recommendations.
Funding
1. Monitor cash balances and cash forecasts.
2. Assist with debt and equity financing.
3. Oversee cash flow planning and ensure availability of funds as needed.
4. Coordinate the development and monitoring of budgets.
Third Parties
1. Represent the company with bankers and investors maintaining banking relationships.
Desired Qualifications The candidate Controller should have experience in partnering with an executive team, and have a high level of written and oral communication skills. Experience working with information technology to manage finance and accounting software packages. Excellent analytical and abstract reasoning skills, plus excellent organizational skills. Preference will be given to candidates with hands-on experience in mid-sized businesses and the Certified Public Accountants or Certified Management Accountant designations. Retail experience highly valuable.
Working Conditions Will work in an office environment.
Compensation Will be based upon qualifications and experience.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $85,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
