Cultural Affairs Program Coordinator
Job description
Assists with the coordinating cultural programs for the university.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assists in logistics, organization, and preparation of cultural programs.
- Acts as a liaison with the Marketing Department for the creation of promotional materials, ads, tickets, posters and signage for marketing and promotion of Cultural Affairs programs, activities, and events.
- Maintains active social media presence for WNMU Cultural Affairs on all platforms.
- Writes regular Eblast newsletters to Cultural Affairs list and maintains list.
- Writes copy for programs, activities, and events for online, print and radio advertising. Proofreads all promotional materials.
- Posts events on online calendars.
- Creates promotional graphics (posters, tickets, Facebook marquees, WNMU marquees) for events if Marketing and Communications is unable to create them.
- Manages the Cultural Affairs and Fiesta Latina Website to include but not limited to adding events, making corrections, and monitoring feedback. Research performing acts.
- Arranges catering and lodging for artist, secures venue and equipment (FUFs), assists the Director with overall event management, planning and execution and vendor recruitment for events.
- Assists the Director in grant writing, researching grant opportunities.
- Acts as a liaison with area schools for outreach programs.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Job Knowledge: Ability to work collaboratively with staff, faculty, students, community organizations, and other University departments and programs. Ability to evaluate problems, deploy sound judgments, and maintain confidential information. Ability to assist with recruiting and training volunteers. Skill in the use of personal computers and proficiency with MS Office suite applications and Adobe Creative Suites. Must possess strong customer service focus, strong interpersonal/verbal communication skills, strong writing, editing, planning, and organizational skills. Knowledge of basic marketing concepts. Must be able to handle multiple deadlines and maintain accuracy. Must be sensitive to cultural differences within the University and community.
- Working Conditions/Physical Demands (With or Without Accommodations): Diverse work environments depending on events and regular office work. Travels within the community when needed. May be required to lift normal office equipment and materials and assist with set up for events. Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information. Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication. Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions. Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting. Work involves weekend, evening, and/or holiday activities. May be required to work additional hours or days depending on circumstances.
Certifications/Licenses & Minimum Requirements:
Associates Degree or higher in related field required. Two to four years of related experience in event production and/or management preferred. Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
Western New Mexico University is a state funded University. As such, all position are dependent on state appropriations and available funding sources.

a. Valid New Mexico driver's license.
