Job description
The Hydrovac Operator is responsible for the successful completion of hydro excavation processes. The incumbent operates Hydrovac and other machines used in construction to excavate, load, dig or break rocks or debris, dirt, or other materials.
- Responsible for the successful completion of hydro excavation projects including utility line exposure, debris removal, slot trenching, and digging
- Operate Hydrovac trucks and equipment in a safe and professional manner
- Supervise activities of Hydrovac Laborers in order to ensure employee skill development
- Complete all required paperwork properly and within set time lines
Competencies
- Knowledge of basic underground utilities
- Skills in operating heavy equipment and machines proficiently and safely
- Ability to use time and equipment efficiently in order to complete projects on time
- Ability to communicate effectively in a team environment
Work Environment
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and may require use of ear plugs. Work is done outside at a client facility or job site that may have inclement weather conditions. Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work. The employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts, vehicles and equipment.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to type, talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Visual Acuity: must be adequate to perform all required tasks in a safe manner.

Field technician positions require continuous walking and working outdoors in varying weather elements. Along with walking, technicians will bend, kneel and stand frequently throughout the day. Equipment can range in weight from 2-15 pounds, the ability to read and understand utility maps may be required to complete daily tasks.
At a minimum, applicants must meet these requirements:
- Possess a valid driver’s license with clean driving record
- Pass pre-employment background and drug screening
- Have a High School Diploma or GED
