Job description

Under the direction of a supervisory official in the Center for Health Statistics and Informatics, the Health Data Specialist 1 will geocode address information for the New Jersey Birth and Death data registries (Vital Events) on a continuous basis to obtain/verify municipality, zip and FIPS codes. Import registry data in various formats such as SAS or Excel into a geocoding program such as ArcGIS Basic, Pro, and Online or other available software.

Conduct geospatial analysis to help identify patterns of health status, disease burden, violence and injury, health care access, opioid and other substance use, etc. Create map overlays to depict health-related events alongside relevant community attributes, including underlying disease, socio-demographic status, environmental factors, social vulnerability indices, and determinants of health.

Use data visualization software such as Tableau to create/update dashboards to share statistics and graphics from the New Jersey Violent Death Reporting System (NJVDRS) and the NJ State Unintended Drug Overdose Reporting System (NJSUDORS). Work with subject matter experts to prepare presentations / reports containing findings, conclusions and recommendations based upon the above listed data sets.

This position may be eligible to participate in the Department's pilot telework program, which offers eligible employees the opportunity to work remotely for up to two (2) days per week, as approved by management.

Salary Range: $60.7K - $86K.
