The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a Groundskeeper I position. In keeping with the University of Pittsburgh’s mission of a first class educational facility and in accordance with the guiding principles, Facilities Management strives to deliver excellence in campus stewardship, customer service, quality construction and facilities’ services by leading, planning, and managing the University’s facilities’ and utilities’ resources to maintain and produce healthy learning physical environments that are safe, attractive, efficient, and sustainable. The groundskeeper’s primary responsibility and function is to provide an aesthetically appealing and safe outdoor environment to the campus community. This includes all of the duties and tasks associated with the proper manicuring of all outdoor green spaces, flower beds, planters, etc. Duties also include the expeditious removal of any potential hazards including snow and ice removal during inclement weather seasons. Some direct Athletic program support is also required by way of event support and set up/break down. Ability to demonstrate knowledge of plant material and able to demonstrate the proper care techniques for all seasonal plantings and trees. Ability to demonstrate the proper use of larger traditional grounds equipment I.E. rider mowers, water buffalo watering apparatus, stand up rider mowers, proper and safe operation of fully loaded (salt and mulch) motor vehicles including standard trucks as large as a Ford F550 series, proper operation of snow plow systems. Ability to demonstrate knowledge of proper small engine maintenance and repair. Previous verifiable commercial grounds keeping experience. Knowledge of various irrigation system types, to include maintenance and small repairs. Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture Technician Applicator’s license.
