Academy of the Sacred Heart, established in 1851, is Michigan’s oldest independent school, offering a Catholic, college-preparatory education to girls (infant-Grade 12) and boys (infant-Grade 8) of many cultures and faiths. Academy of the Sacred Heart has openings for aides to work with children from birth to age 3 in its Early Childhood Program. Preference is given to applicants who have educational background and experience in the field.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Create an emotionally responsive, caring, positive, and accepting environment supportive of the individual development of each child and family
• Supervise young children and ensure a safe and loving environment including the ability to monitor and respond to events going on at all times in the classroom, outdoor play areas, and other areas of the campus.
• Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests

General Competencies:

• Completion of Virtus: Protecting God's Children training and fingerprints on file
• Excellent communication skills
• Punctuality and dependability
• Adherence to all personnel policies, procedures and rules contained in the ASH Handbook
• Maintain productive and professional relationships with other Sacred Heart faculty and staff

Archdiocese of Detroit

All teachers in the Catholic Schools in the Archdiocese of Detroit shall be certified and /or approved for teaching by the Department of Education for the State of Michigan. All teachers are required to hold the appropriate endorsement for the subject(s) they are assigned to teach.
