Job description

This is skilled manual work in the alteration, maintenance and repair of municipal marina facilities. Work involves the use of skilled trade knowledge to install, clean, repair or replace various facility components. Facilities may include fencing, lawn sprinkling systems, plumbing components, electrical fixtures, dock structures and other building components such as doors, windows, hardware, trim work and painting. Work requires the ability to read and understand manuals, blueprints and schematics to determine assembly or repair needs; skilled use of a variety of tools; painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry and welding tasks; and preventative and scheduled maintenance. Work may involve supervision of one or more semi-skilled workers performing routine assignments and special projects; and monitoring and inspection of work performed by independent outside contractors in and around the marina property. Because of the critical responsibilities of this class, an employee in this class will on occasion be required to report to work outside of the regularly scheduled shift to address scheduled maintenance or urgent repairs at the discretion of management.

Salary: $19.57 - $27.93

To Qualify

Minimum Qualifications. Applicants must:

  • Possess a valid high school diploma or GED equivalency.
  • Possess and continue to maintain a valid Driver License.
  • Be able to read, write, and understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Have at least 18 months of experience in one or more of the building maintenance trades detailed above.
  • Be able to swim, float and tread water.
  • Be able to perform manual tasks for extended periods of time, sometimes under unfavorable weather conditions.
  • Acknowledge this position is designated as Emergency Critical (EC) and if hired into the position, you must be immediately available to the department before, during, and after a declared emergency and/or disaster.

Desirable Qualifications. Preferred applicants:

  • Have extensive experience in commercial building construction.
  • Are experienced in testing and trouble-shooting commercial building components and systems to include HVAC, plumbing, and electrical.
  • Have some supervisory experience.
  • Have some experience using a personal computer for communications and record keeping purposes.
