We are Nevados Engineering, an innovative startup based in San Francisco, CA that is pioneering in the solar industry. At Nevados, we believe that solar installations should fit to the earth instead of forcing the earth to fit to solar installations. We set out to make solar a cost-competitive source of clean energy in every way possible. We specialize in designing and selling mounting systems, typically called Single Axis Trackers, and other related innovative technology to elevate the solar industry. Our core product, the Nevados “All Terrain Tracker”, is unique in that it enables installation on ungraded terrain which triples the amount of land available for developers, reduces construction costs, and reduces construction labor on flat, sloped, and rolling terrain.

Position Overview:

Nevados is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer responsible for developing the next generation of solar tracker technology. This includes understanding the design requirements, cost objectives and material constraints. In addition, you will be part of the product development team and get to participate in product ideation, concept development, prototyping, testing and production planning. We are a small team; hence, you will have an opportunity to develop diverse skills set supporting product development. Some of your time will be spent on developing new product and some will be spent on supporting existing product line. We are located in the SF bay area and desire local-ish candidates for this position.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in Ideation and Brainstorming sessions
  • Work with Nevados counsel to create and protect IP
  • Document and understand product requirements
  • Develop 3D CAD models using SolidWorks
  • Perform Finite Element Analysis
  • Design Reviews with the Engineering Team
  • Prepare 2D drawings, dxf and step files for manufacturing
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineers for prototypes and manufacturing
  • Coordinate product testing with internal and external teams
  • Collaborate with Testing Engineers on test plans
  • Support design changes for current products
  • Conduct design for manufacturing (DFM) reviews
  • Support First Article and Production Inspections as needed
  • Collaborate with Application Engineers on product changes
  • Manage Installation and Operational Manual
  • Participate in product training for internal and external customers
  • Potential to travel domestically to solar power plant locations, customer visits, supplier visits as needed (due to being a small team, needs may change).

Salary: Competitive salary will be determined and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Compensation also includes equity in the Company.

Location: Must be local and able to travel to the office/testing site occasionally as needed. Most of the team works primarily from home and goes to the office or testing site when tasks require it.

Qualifications:

Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer or related. Experience working with a start-up preferred.

  • Experience designing structural components
  • Experience designing steel components
  • Experience designing progressive die forming products
  • Experience using SolidWorks
  • Experience in conducting design reviews
  • Understanding of GD&T, Tolerance analysis
  • Work experience in Solar tracking space is a plus

Skills: A team player with strong communication, mechanical, structural, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
