Function/Duties of Position:- Evaluating and updating state public health preparedness plans for disease outbreaks, mass fatality events, mass casualty events, traumatic events such as mass shootings, and catastrophic events such Cascadia Subduction Zone earthquakes.
- Supporting health equity initiatives and vulnerable populations planning.
- Evaluating past emergency response activities to streamline program processes and improve emergency response services for affected community members.
- Reviewing policies and laws.
- Supporting volunteer management for the State Emergency Registry of Volunteers in Oregon with evaluation, outreach and program administrations activities.
- Assessing and supporting emergency information systems and emergency notification systems
- Planning and supporting public health communications.
- Writing After Action Reports and collecting lessons learned after specific incidents
- Cross-training in Incident Management Team (IMT) roles (planning, operations, logistics, safety, public information, command) in order to provide support.
- Support project management, collaboration activities, meeting facilitation, and knowledge capture.
- Participate in developmental training, observation and job shadowing to support the above responsibilities and develop the individuals for potential careers in the field of public health preparedness.

Candidates must be able to commit at least for 6 months. Hours will generally be between 16-24 per week. Work may be performed remotely and hours will be somewhat flexible.
- Enrolled in or on vacation from or is otherwise registered in Graduate Program (minimum 4.5 credit hours).
- Strong teamwork skills
- Strong verbal & written communication skills
- Detail orientation
- Close adherence to regulations guiding storage and transfer of protected health information
- Responsiveness to feedback
- Comfortable with phone conversations
- Able to maintain composure and remain task-oriented during times of crisis (e.g., health disasters)
- Experience working at a public health department
- A master's degree in public health or epidemiology or a related field
- Potential interest in a career in public health preparedness
- Experience conducting culturally responsive and equity-informed work
- Epidemiologic, public health, health care or other professional experience in communicable / infectious disease, disaster preparedness, or organizational development
- Prior experience with disaster response work, pandemic response work, or other crisis work
