Location: BETSY JOHNSON HOSPITAL, DUNN, NC
Position Summary:
Evaluates and assesses needs of referred inpatients and outpatients. Reviews medical records to determine appropriate exercise programs. Plans and implements individualized physical therapy programs to help patients develop, regain, or maintain their ability to perform daily activities. Provides therapy services defined in treatment plans. Demonstrates exercises and use of equipment. Teaches patients of all ages and families specific activities, skills, techniques, and exercises that are designed to maximize the patient’s functional independence in activities of daily living. Recommends appropriate adaptive equipment and instructs in the use of such devices. Studies, evaluates, and records patients' activities and progress. Works cooperatively with physicians, case managers, and adjustors. Maintains adequate materials, records, and quality controls in accordance with hospital standards. May oversee work of physical therapy assistants or aides. Maintains competence and continuing education in accordance with NCPTBE guidelines. Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Acute physical therapy experience preferred. Good knowledge of acceptable medical terminology and related physical therapy equipment and devices. Good interpersonal communication skills. Good patient care skills. Good skills in writing clear, concise, and appropriate evaluations, daily notes in patient charts, and correspondence to other professionals. Ability to work with hostile and emotionally upset people while maintaining emotional stability. Ability to respond quickly to changes in patient and/or department conditions.
Required Education, Licenses, and Certifications:
- Bachelor's Degree Physical Therapy
- Licensed Physical Therapist
- Basic Life Support Required
Preferred Education, Licenses, and Certifications:
- Master's Degree Physical Therapy
- Doctorate Degree Physical Therapy
Must be able to communicate orally, read, write, hear, and visually assess patient status. Must be able to utilize proper body mechanics when examining or delivering care. Must be able to transfer and transport patients of various body weight and composition. Must be able to stand, bend, stoop, lift, turn, twist, sit, and walk frequently. Must be able to demonstrate proper use of equipment. Must be able to manipulate equipment.
