ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Supervises the activities and personnel engaged in the seafood production and canning operations.
Oversees and participates in the development and achievement of performance, efficiency, product quality standards, and safety.
Provides direction and oversight to cannery foreman, production manager, maintenance manager, office manager, safety manager, chef, and quality assurance manager regarding the coordination of production operating standards with overall company objectives.
Works cooperatively with the Fleet Manager to ensure timely and efficient tender and fishing vessel offloads to maximize daily production.
Works with Fleet Manager to ensure that the plant’s bait inventory is adequate to support the Crab,
Black Cod, and Halibut fleets.
Prepares annual overhead and variable expense budgets.
Directs R&M and capital projects.
Manage pre- and post-season projects.
Assists in the recruitment, training, and retention of key staff.
Research and propose technologies and methods to increase production, reduce costs, improve quality and advance safety and sanitation standards.
Maintains effective daily communication with corporate management and the sales department ensuring that daily production, inventory, and logistics data are tracked and shared.
Works with Corporate Safety to implement safety measures, communicate training needs and maintain a safe, drug and alcohol-free work environment.
Orders equipment, parts and supplies through the purchasing department and arranges the freight shipment north and south bound between Seattle and Egegik.
Ensures compliance with and reporting to multiple regulating entities in areas of air quality (ODC), EPA,
FDA, OSHA, HACCP, USDC, APDES, and Coast Guard.
Works with the facility maintenance manager on preventative maintenance procedures and plans the repair of machines and equipment to minimize downtime.
Upholds conformance with employment policies, progressive discipline, the issuance of warnings, and the administration of company policies.
Administers pay and job assignments fairly, legally and within guidelines established by the human resource department.
Communicates and enforces established quality standards for all products and grades; develops and implements methods to measure, monitor and test such standards.
Trains, coaches, and evaluates department managers leading by example, demonstrating leadership skills, and striving toward continuous improvement.
Takes a personal interest in all reports of injury occurring in the production areas, initiates investigation when appropriate and addresses all unsafe conditions immediately.
Encourages employee communications and an open-door policy through team meetings and one-on-one interactions.
Stays abreast of production and personnel management trends by attending company-sponsored training programs and/or outside training opportunities.
Handles all personnel matters with confidentiality, sensitivity and in accordance with company and legal guidelines.
Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
5-years’ experience in a seafood production management role.
In depth knowledge of production principles, techniques and related equipment.
Experience working in a highly regulated food manufacturing industry.
Practical work experience in planning, supervision, cost and budget control and quality assurance.
High aptitude for problem solving and troubleshooting.
Ability to motivate others and build high production teams through exemplary leadership.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Solid computer skills and experience with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
Must be able to manage multiple tasks and priorities and easily adapt to changing situations.
WORK SCHEDULE:
Ability to work in Alaska for extended periods of approximately 5 months continuously. The work schedule in Alaska requires long hours, up to 16-hours per day and 7 days per week. Plant manager can choose to either relocate full time to Petersburg, Alaska or work seasonally February thru November.
