Job Description
NYC Health + Hospitals is looking for a Press Secretary to join its in-house Communications Team. The Communications Team will be responsible for developing and executing a communications and media relations strategy with the goal of educating New Yorkers about the work of NYC Health + Hospitals.
Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Communications, the Press Secretary will be responsible for:
- Serving as the designated spokesperson for Office of Ambulatory Care Operations initiatives such as: the Humanitarian Emergency Response and Relief (HERRC) work, NYC Test & Treat Corps, Street Health Outreach + Wellness (SHOW), COVID-19 and infectious disease response, and related projects,
- Developing short- and long-term media strategies to advance organizational goals,
- Working with Central Office media staff and assisting facility-based public affairs staff on all aspects of media relations,
- Serving as a liaison to Mayor’s press office
- Aligning press strategy with social media, digital marketing efforts, and internal communications
- Managing daily incoming press inquiries,
- Packaging good news stories,
- Preparing press releases and other press materials,
- Orchestrating press events,
- Serving as spokesperson,
- Managing crisis responses,
- Handling after-hour and weekend media inquiries and serving as part of health system’s emergency preparedness team,
- Writing or adapting stories for in-house publication,
- Monitoring and tracking media results, and
- Other communications-related duties as may assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
1. A Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited college or university in Journalism, Public Relations, Advertising, or a related field; and,
2. Six years of experience in journalism, public relations, advertising, or a related field; or,
3. A satisfactory equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

- NYC residency preferred
- Track record of proactive and original media initiatives
- Ability to develop story angles and effectively communicate complex issues
- Strong written and verbal communications skills
- Strong media relations skills, and the ability to cultivate relationships with reporters
- Experience with social and digital media strategy
- Creative, independent thinker, strong research and analytical skills
Knowledgeable in:
- Media relations
- Story and pitch development
- NYC media market
