Job Summary
We are hiring a Safety Specialist to join our team! The individual in this position will provide support to the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) on various capital improvement and construction projects within the DC, Maryland and Virginia area.
The ideal candidate is one with a bachelor’s degree and about 3-5 years of experience in operations (transit is a plus but not required). They will have a strong interest in aptitude to learn the customer's processes, a passion for transportation, and will be a quick learner. They will be capable of developing end-user friendly processes; leading implementation through training, coaching, and mentoring; facilitating Local Safety Committees, measuring effectiveness with metrics based on key performance indicators; and collecting feedback that is used to drive continuous improvement.
SKILLS
- Skilled in coaching, training, and relationship building to effectively implement change with management and the frontline work force.
- Skilled at developing, implementing and maintaining statistical data and performing in depth analysis of safety process program data.
- Skilled at generating reports and charts that effectively communicate analytical results and findings to management
ABILITIES
- Ability to drive Safety Risk Management implementation on a day-to-day basis in partnership with management.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Safety Risk Coordinators, senior management, regulatory oversight, and other stakeholders
- Ability to think systematically, integrating people, processes, and tools in a manner that drives measurable outcomes and continuously improves.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Safety, Environmental Sciences, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering, Transportation, Health, Occupational Safety or a related management field.
Experience
- 3-5 years of relevant experience in operations, quality assurance, safety, training in support of organizations within high reliability industries.
