We, at Leggett & Platt Inc., are searching for an experienced Sr. IT Technical Writer I within our Corporate IT team to help support our business. As a Sr. IT Technical Writer, you will be a crucial part of our change management process within IT by crafting messaging and training for a wide variety of technology projects and initiatives with diverse audiences. Ultimately, you will be helping people learn how they learn best by creating a broad range of documentation and training materials, from user manuals and mass communications, to videos and live online training courses. The team you will work with is creative, engaging, and passionate about producing high-quality materials that help people better understand technology and how IT projects impact them.
So, what will you be doing as a Sr. IT Technical Writer?
- Produce high-quality communications and documentation appropriate for its intended audience. This may include training manuals, mass communications, instructional videos, presentations, and diagrams.
- Consult with stakeholders to plan and recommend communication, documentation, and training strategies. Develop timelines, milestones, and deliverables.
- Research and gather data from multiple sources to document requirements.
- Organize materials in a visually appealing manner with a consistent, professional voice.
- Provide feedback and editing services for the improvement of existing documentation, communications, and training campaigns.
- Design graphics for communications, training materials, and websites.
- Assist with development of change management strategies to encourage user adoption of new technologies and processes.
- Create and facilitate custom, live in-person, and online training content.
To be successful in this role, you’ll need:
- Bachelor’s Degree in English, Technical Writing, Communications, Education, or relevant field
- 3 yrs experience with demonstrated ability to write, edit, and design user-friendly communications and documentation (writing samples may be asked of you during screenings)
- Superior command of the English language, including rules and usage
- Ability to translate technical concepts into simple and intuitive training materials for a global audience, both technical and non-technical.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (particularly Word and PowerPoint)
- Strong analytical, planning, organizational, and time management skills
- Eye for design and content organization.
Things we consider a plus:
- Familiarity with Adobe InDesign and Illustrator
- Knowledge of adult learning principles and curriculum design
- Superb interpersonal communication skills, particularly where technical information must be conveyed in a clear and convincing way (think marketing within an IT environment)
- Knowledge or experience working with IT documentation
