Metric Consulting, LLC (MCL) division of Metric Engineering, seeking Sr. Urban & Community Planner(s) who will create working relationships with local and state governments and specialize in the intersection of planning and natural hazard management, community resiliency, floodplain management, and/or disaster recovery.

MCL’s Emergency Management and Long-Term Recovery Division works with government agencies and communities to design and implement policies and programs to promote increased resilience to disasters and long-term housing, economic and infrastructure recovery after disaster strikes. Our functional expertise is in program management and operations, planning and preparedness, technical assistance and training, strategic communications and outreach, compliance and monitoring, and performance measurement and evaluation. Clients include states and localities administering HUD, FEMA, Treasury, DOL and other federally funded disaster recovery programs. All our work is done in a professional, collegial, and intellectual environment that allows individuals pursue their passions and generate results.

This professional position reports to a Senior Leader in the Emergency Management Long-Term Recovery Division and is responsible for working with various project teams to prepare deliverables for state and local government clients, assist with business development and research, compile data, and develop proposals and marketing materials. MCL seeks a flexible, passionate professional with an interest and ability to work across a number of activities and with different teams in an exciting and growing field.

This is a remote-based position. The ideal candidate must be able to travel up to 40% as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement collaborative actions with stakeholders and communities impacted by a disaster or preparing for/mitigating effects of potential disaster.
  • Lead the engagement of external stakeholders including community organizations, universities, public agencies, elected officials, and technical assistance providers with the goal of facilitating outreach initiatives.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships and communication with key community outreach stakeholders.
  • Utilize stakeholder analysis and manage knowledge of community relationships; assets and priorities to advance specific recovery strategies and initiatives; and to evaluate, refocus or pivot community engagement strategies and priorities.
  • Plan, coordinate, and engage in community outreach and education, including meetings, strategic convenings, and presentations in support of recovery efforts.
  • Oversee continuity between community engagement and communications activities through shared understanding and messaging, documentation, and both internal and public-facing collateral materials that reflect community goals, objectives, strategies, plans, and implementation progress

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5+ years professional planning/disaster recovery experience
  • Must have valid driver’s license and successfully pass a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check.
  • Ability to travel up to 40% as needed based on current and prospective clients.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree
  • Experience in the long-term recovery planning process in either a pre- or post-disaster environment.
  • The desire to help communities prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters.
  • Ability to produce solutions in high-stress situations
  • Experience in problem-solving / troubleshooting
  • Experience in working with governmental agencies and community citizens

· Demonstrated success in project execution and maintaining client relationships.

· Superb technical writing, critical thinking, time management, and organizational skills.
