    STARTALK Chinese Language Summer Camp

    This program offers Chinese language proficiency development with a focus on speaking for novice level learners and the addition of reading and writing for intermediate level learners for HCPSS students entering Grades 6-8. The language instruction program will be complemented with a wide range of Chinese culture-themed activities such as arts and crafts, martial arts, virtual field trips, and games.

    LOCATIONS/TIMES:

    • June 26 - July 14, 2023 (Monday-Friday; no program on Monday, July 4th)
    • Teacher Training Dates: June 16, June 20-23
    • Teacher Hours: 8:15 a.m. - 4:15 p.m.
    • Student Hours: 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. (program start and end times may change)
    • Homewood Center

    Schools and offices are closed on July 4th.

    SALARY RATES:

    Non-HCPSS Teachers will receive $41.19 an hour.

    Non-HCPSS Paraeducators will receive $17.53 an hour

    All staff are required to attend mandatory training/preparation.

    POSITIONS:

    Onsite Program Coordinator

    Chinese Language Teacher - Chinese language proficiency required. Maryland certification for Chinese PreK-12 preferred.

    Chinese Art and Culture Teacher - Chinese language proficiency required

    Technology Teacher - English and/or Chinese language proficiency

    Paraeducator - Chinese language proficiency required

    Administrative Assistant - English language proficiency required

    • work history, volunteer work, and/or dates of unemployment for the past 5 years
    • three professional references that supervised you in a paid or volunteer capacity
    • Official College transcript
    • A copy of your teacher certification

    Paraeducator Applicants must submit a complete application with the following items:

    • work history, volunteer work, and/or dates of unemployment for the past 5 years - If you are a student, you may document this information under experience.
    • three professional references that supervised you in a paid or volunteer capacity - If you are a student, you may use teacher, advisor, counselor, and/or administrators.
    • High school diploma, GED or higher - If you are a student, you may provide a copy of your HS transcript.
    • If you are a student between the ages of 16-17, you must also provide a work permit.
