Job description
The Storekeeper performs materials issue, receipt, unloading, stocking, pickup, delivery and other related tasks required to provide materials and services support to Rice Facilities Engineering and Planning Department personnel and other Rice community members. Perform additional tasks as directed by Business Process Manger which includes maintaining departmental records required to track various shop activities.
The ideal candidate has maintenance materials purchasing knowledge, exceptional customer service mindset, problem-solving abilities and the ability to perform job related administrative tasks with high level of detail and accuracy.
This is a non-exempt, benefits eligible position, and the salary range is from $15.50 to $19.24 an hour.
Essential Functions
- Receive and understand parts order requests both in verbal and written formats
- Ability to operate computers, printers, faxes, copiers, communication devices and other types of office equipment
- Basic functionality using the department Operation and Maintenance computer system, Rice Procurement P2P system, and Microsoft Office programs in order to maintain departmental records
- Ability to perform job related daily tasks with minimal supervisory direction after completion of three (3) to six (6) months on the job training
- Ability to perform job tasks with frequent interruptions
- Ability to operate mobile equipment and material handling equipment such as vans, pickup trucks, golf carts, forklifts, pallet jacks and general shop tools
- Knowledge and familiarity with maintenance, repair and operating items typically used in a Maintenance Repair Facility
- Supervises temporary employees or student assistants as necessary
- Provides training of assigned job duties for individuals participating in the departmental Step-Up program
Required Qualifications
- HS Diploma or equivalent
License/Certification Required
- Must possess (or have the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire) and maintain a valid Texas driver’s license with no more than three moving violations and/or at fault accidents within the past 36 months, and no convictions or deferred dispositions for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) or Driving Under the Influence (DUI) within the past five years.
- Ability to pass and maintain annual proof of driver insurability. License/Certification Preferred Ability to pass Texas Commission on Environmental Quality Class C Operator course and exam for underground storage tank facility operation within six (6) months.
Preferred Qualifications
- Have knowledge of maintenance materials purchasing
- Be able to lift and transport items weighing 50 lbs or less from one location to another
- Be able to traverse over even and uneven surfaces
- Be able to climb/dismount steps, step stools, ladders and delivery truck racks
- Be able to place and remove various sized items from different levels of 8-10ft storage bins
- Be able to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time, for up to eight hours a day
- Be able to operate mobile equipment and material handling equipment such as vans, pickup trucks, golf carts, forklifts, pallet jacks and general shop tools
Working Conditions
- Warehouse work environment with adequate lighting and temperature controls
- Exposure to hazardous chemicals and materials is limited to receipt and issue of such items
- Customer and department demand may require work to be performed during break periods of beyond normally scheduled work hours, typically a few times a year
- Work environment may be stressful due to multi-level task management, rush or large order requests, numerous customer requests, or having to operate vehicles in Houston traffic conditions
Essential Personnel
This position is considered essential during a campus emergency. The incumbent in this position is expected to support campus during emergency situations, and, may be required to provide related essential services remotely or on site before, during or after a campus emergency.
