$1750 HIRING BONUS
Part-time Youth Program Suicide Prevention Coordinator will work with Native American youth (ages 10-24) in the greater Portland area. This position will engage with youth and provide culturally relevant prevention activities to decrease suicidal ideation, substance use, education dissemination on the difference between commercial and traditional/sacred tobacco uses, as well as other duties as assigned. The Suicide and Tobacco Prevention Coordinator will provide a holistic and strength-based approach to working with youth, their families, schools, and other community stakeholders. This position will work in conjunction with the Youth Prevention Programs team to provide prevention programming to the community. The Suicide and Tobacco Prevention Coordinator will also be required to represent NARA at prevention camps and gatherings organized in the community and by the 9 tribes of Oregon.
RESPONSIBILITES:
1. Working closely with treatment providers to coordinate and implement services, provide other wrap around services to youth and their families such as care management, access to community resources.
2. Work with tribal communities on appropriate cultural youth activities
3. Participate in training and become certified in ASSIST and QPR suicide prevention models
4. Plan and attend weekly Youth activities and events.
5. Ability to work some evenings and some weekends.
6. Ability to travel for job related meetings and events/trainings.
7. Data collection and entry
8. Assist in Grant Reports
9. Provide Grant coordination
10. Help create and maintain NARA’s Healing Space in Gresham, OR
11. Work closely with the Tobacco Manager to create educational materials for NARA’s Tobacco cessation program
12. Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor’s degree preferred, but not required
2. Previous experience working with Native American youth and families
3. Previous experience providing home- and community-based treatment
4. Ability to work effectively with individuals and families from diverse cultural backgrounds
5. Strong oral and written communication skills
6. Must have access to a reliable vehicle and a valid Oregon Drivers' License
