POSITION: Translator/Interpreter - Nepali

DESCRIPTION: To assist all program areas of the Early Childhood Education (ECE) Program with translation/interpretation needs to ensure compliance with BCESC policies and procedures and Ohio Preschool Program rules; and to facilitate the continued involvement of parents of our preschool children.

QUALIFICATIONS :
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Fluency in written and oral Nepali required.
  • Good communication skills.
  • The ability to translate written materials.
  • The availability to be on call, as needed.
  • Willingness/ability to work as a team member.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • History of good job attendance.
  • Valid Ohio driver’s license with good driving record and daily access to private insured vehicle during working hours
  • Must pass criminal background check, and be free from communicable disease.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Assist ECE staff with:
  • General communication with parents and children in the ECE program throughout Butler County
  • Application and enrollment process
  • Translation of written materials (i.e. flyers, forms, newsletter) from English to Nepali
  • Home visits and conferences
  • Information and referral
  • To report the presence of unauthorized or atypical visitors
  • To confer with supervisors regarding progress, concerns and recommendations
  • Child developmental assessments
  • To maintain records and files as required
  • To plan and organize own work to meet priorities
  • To meet deadlines (daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, yearly)
  • To maintain confidentiality in district matters
  • To continuously update and improve professional competence
  • To comply with state and federal regulations that pertain to the position (e.g. OSHA, OCR)
  • To perform other duties consistent with the position as assigned

OTHER DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS:

To serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves and as responsible, intelligent human beings
To help instill in the students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of: Board policies and procedures, building policies and procedures, public relations, and state and federal reporting

Ability to: Interpret policies and procedures, follow instructions, communicate effectively, maintain files and reports, collect data, schedule, and lift moderate amounts of weight

Skill in: Basic math, English and communications

EQUIPMENT OPERATED:
Computers and other usual and customary office equipment

ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Occasional: Exposure to inclement weather driving condition and severe weather, blood, bodily fluid and tissue

Periodic: Exposure to unruly children/adults, blood, bodily fluids and tissue

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary and work year as established by the Governing Board. The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance use in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District.

EVALUATION:
Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board policy on Evaluation of Support Personnel

STARTING DATE: As soon as possible
SALARY: Based upon approved Governing Board Salary Schedule
WORK YEAR: As Needed
DEADLINE: $15.53 - $ 16.67 per hour based upon education and experience
